I love collecting fantasy art books and this was a book I have never seen before on Amazon. I haven't even heard of Aaron Pocock as an artist before purchasing this book. However, just by looking at the cover it is clear he is quite talented. I really like to look at sketches of different subjects and this book had quite an array. The sketches are high quality and beautifully detailed. I did only give this book 4 stars for many reasons that I will list below, none are the fault of the artist.1. The book I think has a poor layout. By that I mean it isn't well organized at all. It is split into sections, but towards the back I found the same children's book subject (a teddy bear) on several pages mixed in with other subjects. If the artist wanted to include the bear in several drawings, I think they should have been shown back to back in order of creation. I didn't like how it seemed that the art wasn't organized in any way such as date, subject, idea etc.
2. The quality of the paper it was printed on is poor. I really felt like I was flipping through printer paper (the kind we xerox on). I feel like for the price the paper should have been glossy, clay coated or a bit heavier. At the front of the book, it looked like the copyright page was a poor photocopy because it had copy lines on the side the faded as they cut the book.
3. There should have been more information on the artist. It only had about a mid length paragraph about the artist and I wanted to know more. None of his sketches were titled as anything, which I found odd, because all other art books clearly title each work of art. There also were random quotes thrown in the book of what the author felt about the sketch, but that happened about 3 times out of a 100 flipping through.
4. Last, I found a few spelling mistakes here and there. Like the front of the book when the author is writing about himself, one of the words wasn't spaced, but drawn together. Throughout the book his quotes begin with a lowercase letter, but end in periods indicating it is meant to be a sentence.
I know I did go out of my way to point out plenty of flaws, but I felt that I have seen better put together books for the price. This is a shame, because the artist is VERY talented and just suffers from proper representation in this book. I would still recommend this book because the sketches are very detailed and can teach even an amateur a thing or two about stippling and shading. The subjects range from fairies, gnomes to teddy bears and even an ostrich. This is a great book, so I still don't regret ordering even though there are flaws.

I love Aaron Pocock's artwork. He has an eye for humour, for beauty and his pictures always, always suggest a story. I was delighted to find this collection of his work and look forward to more.
